Sight Words Game for Kids

The Sight Words Game for Kids is a free, simple game to help children learn how to spell and recognize frequently used words of English language compiled by Edward William Dolch, PhD. The list was first prepared in 1936. Though Dr. Dolch compiled the list based on children's books of his era. The list contains 220 "sight words" that have to be easily recognized in order to achieve reading fluency in the English language. The game is designed to help children think smartly and recognize sounds, putting letters together into words to make the children think logically to identify the structure of different English words. Many of the original 220 Dolch words cannot be learned by pictures or "sounded out" using common sound/letter phonics patterns and have to be learned by sight; hence the term, "sight words." The original Dolch words which compromise of 220 words should be learned before elementary education begins. The game consists of 44 levels with 5 words in each level ordered by 'High Frequency'. All the letters that form the word are scattered on the screen and the word is spoken out at the start of the gameplay . The kid has to drag each letter and drop them on to their respective placeholders visible at the centre of the screen. The word can be listened to any number of times during the game by clicking on the speaker image. The kids can take a hint two times per level if they feel the difficulty in completing the word. To avail a hint you have to click on the heart symbol on the top left corner of the game screen. The levels unlocked and the stars achieved in each level are visible by clicking on the 'Levels' button on main menu. Each level can be played any number of times to improve the stars achieved.
