All you have to do is increase level of the buildings and animal shelters in order to get more income. Hire managers and assign animals to the shelters and your income will be gathered automatically even when you are not playing the game. Thanks to the solution like that you will never feel that you lost anything and game progress will be moving forward even if you didn't play for a couple of days.
