Coventry Rebuilt Lite
Walk the ancient streets of Coventry and see for yourself how its past has shaped its future. Coventry, located in the heart of England, has had a long varied history. Events include Lady Godiva, the Reformation, civil war, the silk, watch, bicycle & car industry and the destruction of the Second World War, to name but a few. In this introduction App, you can view the centre of the city - Broadgate, in seven time periods: 1850s, 1880s, 1930s, 1950s, and 2010s. Every view is full 360, simply swipe to rotate the viewpoint. Use the blue arrows to change position, the orange arrows are to show where you could go in the future's past. The console on the side allows you to travel through time. If you get lost, tap the icon in the top left corner for the map. Or tap the compass on the floor to see other menu options. Along the way, you can learn about its history by tapping the info points, with links to other resources of interest. Some time periods are locked and require you to answer a simple question. The answer can be found in the info points, but If you want you can just guess, the questions are multiple choice. The Coventry Rebuilt project aims is to recreate the entire history of Coventry in a highly detailed computer model. The model is shared in various ways, such as this App, the website and short films. This is just a hobby and this is my first attempt at making an App so if its all goes a bit wrong - sorry! Screenshots/grabs are allowed, please feel free to use any of the images for personal or student projects. Extracting the full 360 images is not permitted. More information on the usage of the App is available at http://www.coventryrebuilt.com/coventry-rebuilt-app/ Good luck time travellers! Known issues The 2010s images are off by a few meters here and there. As you can imagine finding a point in space that you can transport to in all time periods is difficult, especially with the building work going on in the 2010s - credit to Dr Who! Why don't the historic photos line up with the model? I was unable to go back in time and ask the 1880s photographer to move to the left, and the 1930s photographer to move to the right - so settling for somewhere in between has been the only option. Also, there are a number of technical projection reasons why they won't align 100%, but you should be able to line up at least 50% of the images at any one time. Why is it all in black and white? The work on modelling the city has concentrated on making it accurate as possible. The model is being continually refined and added to. The eventual aim is to have a fully realised textured 3D world.
